Hi!
Thanks for visiting my site. I'm Kara and I LOVE baking. I have been baking my grandmother's recipes since I can remember. Now I have a combination of my own recipes and my grandmothers (although most of them are still hers). For years friends and family told me I should sell my cakes, so here I am giving it a shot. This blog's main function is to show everyone some of what I have done so far, but I am always up for new challenges. Many of my recipes remind cake lovers of desserts they had growing up. If you are interested in ordering something just give me an email and we will work out the details! Thanks for visiting!

Grandma's Birthday

This cake is very, very special to me. It was made for my great grandmother on her last birthday. I am starting to tear up just thinking about her, but back to the cake. It was HUGE as you can tell from the pictures. I really love the decoration on this cake, it reminds me of the similarities between she and I. The cake is made of traditional pound and the icing is butter cream.

Flowers

This cake was one of the first decorated cakes I ever made. It was for my great grandmothers birthday. All the flowers on the cake are hand made from icing. The cake is traditional pound with butter cream icing. Sorry the pictures are kind of rough but they were taken from a camera phone before the cameras were any good.

1/2 and 1/2 Cake

Okay, so this was an interesting request. The woman who ordered this cake basically wanted two cakes smashed together. On the left is chocolate cake with butter cream icing and on the right is white cake with chocolate icing.

Gingerbread

I do more than just cakes! One of my favorite Christmas traditions is to make a gingerbread house. This is the house I made during the 2010 Christmas Season. The windows and door are actually made from icing! I had a good bit of leftover gingerbread after I cut out the pieces of my house so I made cookies. I had the best time decorating those cookies, I strongly suggest it. My personal favorite is the man formally dressed on the right in the picture, beside the candy cane.

SEC East Camps/Red velvet

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I am a Carolina fan and yes we were SEC East Champions last year. These two cakes were made for the coaching staff of my Gamecocks. (I have to admit, I was so excited when I was asked to make these cakes.) They are made out of red velvet cake and iced in cream cheese icing and I heard there were no leftovers, so I must have done something right!

Coconut

In my opinion, if you are going to do something it needs to be done right. So this wonderfully moist cake is made with hand grated coconut! The inside is white cake which is covered in white icing and topped with as much coconut as possible.

Pound

Ummmm...the traditional pound, my personal favorite. Nothing beats hot pound cake and a glass of milk. I have done many variations of this cake with different flavors and glazes. My cake however does not need a glaze (as you can see from the picture), it is moist and smooth all on its own. I do understand though some cake lovers just love a good glaze so I can add one if you really want it.
